The unconscious 'conscious choice'

Posted on Jan 17th, 2008 by cosmicbdog : paradigm changer cosmicbdog
"its my conscious choice" said the meat eater in defense.

But how much are you really conscious of? Isn't it more ignorance, than it is conscious? I believe this argument is more of a way of saying "I'm being conscious that I'm being ignorant". Here's why...

Meat eaters generally do not know:
- what the animal looked like - was it healthy looking? was it sick?
- was it a happy animal? a bossy animal? the leader of the herd or the weak?
- what colour was the skin?
- what sex is the animal? male? female?
- how was the animal treated? was it punished? lived happily? close to the end of its life or just beginning?

Ask any meat eater these questions and the only one they'll be able to answer are the obvious ones like "it was young" because they eat veal. But other than that, they have no idea. Often, the butchers don't even know. Because by the time they get it, the skins are removed and so are the organs. Female? Male? They couldn't tell you.

Its such an arrogant statement to make "This is my conscious choice" when there is so much that the person making the statement is unaware of. They actually have no idea what they're talking about and its one of these new age ways we're just supposed to respect "oh thats your belief system... riiiiiiight".

Well, is it ok that my belief system is to protect these animals? That in my belief system, I would rather see 100,000 animals that a human being eats survive instead of a meat eater? That I come and hunt you down in protection of these animals? Thats my belief. Its my choice, isn't it? Thats fair isn't it? Its just my belief. My conscious choice to do whatever I like, right? I just need to throw in the word conscious and that gives me a pardon like I'm a spiritual saint and therefor I can get away with murder day in day out cutting up you blood lusters. Cool as!!!!!

"Dude, you're angry... See, you vegetarians get so angry... you musn't be healthy and its that lack of animal protein making you vicious."

How aggressive is it compared to killing a creature? How aggressive is it to tell somebody with passion that they are doing something wrong and trying to help them see that compared to taking a nail gun and shooting a few into the head of another being? Man!!!!!

Here, you want to be a bit more conscious... here's your bacon, beef and kosher meat:

Part 1 of 3 So where does our food come from? [earthlings]

I don't know you "conscious choice" people do it. My conscious cringes... I watch this footage and I'm paralysed... I break down... my eyes fill with tears and I can't imagine the feeling of what it must be like to be a cow living in these alien environments. Its so sad... how do u do it???

"Hey, thats easy B! I just make the 'conscious' choice to be => IGNORANT <= !!!".

part 2 of 3 So where does our food come from? [earthlings]
Part 3 of 3 So where does our food come from? [earthlings]

Truly heart wrenching... when you actually do become conscious of what your choices have created on this earth, isn't it earthling?

With tears running down, please open up your hearts. Realise what you're doing and supporting and creating on this planet.

Hi Cosmic .. i did nt watch those videos .. I would not have been able to sleep for days if I did.

On utube there are three videos from a documentary about a cow called lulu .. it documents her birth and then her life .. all the way to her death .. which is filmed .. and then her consumption .. as a happy family sit down and eat her for their sunday roast .. really apple pie and smiles stuff ..

anyway .. I saw it years ago and it still haunts me.

About 4 years ago I had a dream .. it was so vivid .. lucid I would say .. there was a pig sqealing in agony .. not dead but injured .. and there was a man trying to catch this pig and throw her into a vat of boiling liquid .. I tried my hardest to rescue her but i could nt it was a dream .. and she  was subjected to the boil … alive initially ..

This dream also haunted me .. you know when you wake up from a nightmare and the fear and horror is visceral .. well it was like that ..

However, days later I was reading an article and i discovered that there was a big fuss about a slaughter house that had been throwing not dead pigs into boiling liquid… I DID NOT REALISE until that day that .. what I saw in my dream was what actually happen to pigs .. I had no idea that they were boiled..

Anyway to cut a long story short .. to me it felt like I had picked up a cry that had been transmitted across the etheric .. sort of like a telepathic transmission…almost like a final despairing cry … of help ..

Its heart breaking … and the article by the washington post quoted on damavara's blog .. where a slaugherhouse man explains ' in a gentle voice ' to the reporter that animals arrive at his section alive .. moving, eyes open, making noises .. he says then and I sense with sadness and regret … they move on to the tail remover - the skinner - gradually
'' DYING PIECE BY PIECE… ''

How tragic is that … how heart breaking …. and its something that is hidden from view .. no one wants to hear the cries and trauma of animals as they are being dismembered - piece by piece … until gradually they die.. and their cries are no more …

How can we support this with our silence … and I mean the silence of the status quo .. the majority .. the accepted norm…

What a dream izz… and insight… its hard to imagine that what you saw is actually a reality. :( I had heard things about these pigs being boiled [no visions tho], but until I'd seen it, I just thought that these were vegetarian fairy tales to get me on board.

Its horrific that they do drop still alive pigs into boiling steam in order to clean their hair off them. Can you imagine how hot that water must be to have to burn hair off a body??? Hot enough to absolutely be hell on earth for any creature… yet not hot enough to completely kill the animal. OMG !!!!!! :(

I've read a few things and heard some things from various people say cats need a special amino acid 'taurine' in order to function. But if the information out there is anything like what its been like for humans I don't think thats worth believing in. I mean, we've been told by many doctors (human vets) and dieticians we need to eat meat as well.

Potentially, a cat does need a special protein only found in other animals. Potentially also that killer 'instinct' is not a fixed characteristic of the feline species as well. Potentially cats are also a part of this changing universe and are open to evolution also. Most potentially though, while they are all mostly being fed meat and given food that evolutionary strain which makes a creature adapt is not provided and so its unlikely the cats will change any time soon.

Cats interest me a lot. I think there is something seriously wrong about eating animals that are 10 - 100 times your size. e.g a cat eating a cow… a cat eating kangaroo… a cat eating a lamb even. A little cat would find it difficult to even kill a lamb, let alone even be able to bother a cow. So I think we are really going in the wrong direction by feeding these little cute creatures these gigantic animals…. and then wonder why they can give off an energy as though We are They're slaves at times. I mean, if a cats stomach knows that its eating an animal bigger than us, is it possible that has something to do with why many cats feel like they are the bosses in the house? Deep inside they could be thinking “I eat bigger animals than you even!”.

Researching this a lot is probably something very important. Its something I think we all need to think about because there are so many pets eating other animals. And I do know a lot of people that feed their pets more meat than they eat themselves which I think is strange. And many of those people don't eat meat because they don't want to kill or take another life, yet look past this when feeding their pet. My query is, why do we consider these certain animal to be worthy of our compassion and consider it important for them to survive, and not the animals we are feeding it? Why do we attach connection and love to just those we've decided to take under our wing and protection of our homes? How would this scenario alter if we consider all the creatures of earth to be under our umbrella of compassion?

I'd like to think that all creatures will survive. And that if the future looks like we will start to not tolerate humans killing animals because we give animals equal rights to humans, then I think we have to also consider that we wouldn't really tolerate animals doing it either. Animals are beautiful, sure, and looking at lions in the wild they are beautiful - but just because they run around killing doesn't mean that its good either. I feel its possible that all the creatures on the planet could evolve. We just need to be open to the possibility. I mean, why don't we open our minds to the possibility that lions could just start talking to us in the future? And we to them? Why do we think that this is it - humans at the top, everything below us? Forever and ever Amen…

We've actually seen animals respond and develop to intelligences that we religiously brainwashed species thought were only available to us. I've seen a cat who could never not barge in and push all the other cat away learn to sit there and wait for the other to finish patiently before going in and eating. Seems like its ok with doing that now. What if the animals on the planet are meant to be like our children? We guide them towards the way?

We will say that because an animal does something, then its inherently ok and is good to do. A dolphin eats fish, so its ok that they eat fish since they are smart beings. But aren't I an animal as well? And aren't my impulses, as alien as they may seem, like the things I am suggesting, don't they also fall within the parenthesis we define as 'nature'? To say that lions eat meat, so its ok, because a lion is a part of nature, then how can we not apply that same logic to what I am suggesting? I'm not an alien am I? Nope, I'm right here on earth and my impulses to suggest animals don't eat meat is just as valid as a lion taking a life. If its ok for a lion to take a life, which is intruding on another beings life, I see that same logic applying to myself and I can intrude and stop a lion doing that. Maybe aliens elsewhere in the universe watching the 'human discovery channel' will watch me do that and go “woow… so beautiful those creatures intruding on each other”.

What do you think? :)

Hiya ..
I have never thought about it in those terms before .. that is really interesting.
Ill have to go away and have a think about this .. and get back to you..
I do know that the first day my cat came to live with me [ she was 7 ], she jumped onto my lovebirds  cage [ house ] .. and when I took a zero tolerance stance in relation to her even looking in the direction of my birds .. she does nt .. in fact she runs out of the room on the very few occasions when one of them has flown out of their cage when she is there.
BTW I am very careful with my birds .. I do not allow my cat and my birds in the same room when I am not there .. and I do not let them fly around with my cat in the same area either.
But still … she knows she is not allowed to eye them up for a meal ..  and she does nt even look at them now ..
Although - I think she would like too … desperately … so she has changed her natural behaviour … but i would not trust her if they were flying and she was in the same room .. no way… i think her natural impulse would be too powerful to resist.
But about what you said anything is possible .. ill have a think .. you ve given me a bit to think about .. thanks
